Streaming Guide

Compiling list of resources.

OBS Bitrate Settings

Check with each platform to see their maximum accepted bitrate, some will only allow a lower video bitrate if you are not partnered with them, so you will have to adjust your resolution and FPS accordingly to keep visual pixelation / artifacts to a minimum.

Static / Low Complexity Scenes

Static or low complexity scenes, such as a slow-paced game or a webinar with minimal movement, require less bitrate compared to fast or high complexity scenes. Using lower bitrates for these scenes can help reduce bandwidth usage without sacrificing much quality.

Resolution Framerate Upload Speed (Min) Video Bitrate Audio Bitrate Keyframe Interval B-Frames
4K 30 fps 20-25 Mbps 20-25 Mbps 384 Kbps 2s 2
60 fps 30-35 Mbps 30-35 Mbps 384 Kbps 2s 2
1440p 30 fps 10-12 Mbps 10-12 Mbps 192 Kbps 2s 2
60 fps 15-18 Mbps 15-18 Mbps 192 Kbps 2s 2
1080p 30 fps 5-6 Mbps 5-6 Mbps 192 Kbps 2s 2
60 fps 8-9 Mbps 8-9 Mbps 192 Kbps 2s 2
720p 30 fps 2.5-3.5 Mbps 2.5-3.5 Mbps 128 Kbps 2s 2
60 fps 4.5-6 Mbps 4.5-6 Mbps 128 Kbps 2s 2

Fast / High Complexity Scenes

Fast or high complexity scenes, such as action-packed games or sports broadcasts, require higher bitrates to maintain smoothness and clarity. These scenes have more rapid changes, which puts more strain on encoding, making a higher bitrate necessary to avoid pixelation and artifacts.

Resolution Framerate Upload Speed (Min) Video Bitrate Audio Bitrate Keyframe Interval B-Frames
4K 30 fps 25-35 Mbps 25-35 Mbps 384 Kbps 2s 2
60 fps 66-85 Mbps 66-85 Mbps 384 Kbps 2s 2
1440p 30 fps 12-18 Mbps 12-18 Mbps 192 Kbps 2s 2
60 fps 24-30 Mbps 24-30 Mbps 192 Kbps 2s 2
1080p 30 fps 6-10 Mbps 6-10 Mbps 192 Kbps 2s 2
60 fps 12-15 Mbps 12-15 Mbps 192 Kbps 2s 2
720p 30 fps 3-5 Mbps 3-5 Mbps 128 Kbps 2s 2
60 fps 6-10 Mbps 6-10 Mbps 128 Kbps 2s 2
